Language and dialect
Does an AI voice assistant understand Swiss German?
The essentials at a glance
- Understands callers who speak Swiss German (dialect) and answers in clear Standard German.
- By voice instead of menu: the language is recognised automatically during the call.
- Four languages on one number: German, French, Italian, English.
- Swiss product from Voxtra GmbH in Zurich, data protection under the revFADP and GDPR.
How Voxtra handles Swiss German
Voxtra recognises Swiss German during the call and understands the concern, and the caller keeps their own way of speaking.
This works by voice, so prior language selection and key presses fall away: the caller simply speaks in their dialect.
Why this matters for Swiss practices
On the phone, a large part of German-speaking Switzerland speaks dialect. People who may speak in their own dialect feel understood and are more likely to book an appointment.
An assistant that misses the dialect produces the opposite: constant follow-up questions and, in the end, calls cut short. For Voxtra, dialect is everyday life. What the assistant costs is shown under Costs and prices.
Four languages, recognised automatically
Voxtra supports German, French, Italian and English and additionally understands Swiss German. The assistant recognises the language on its own during the call. The caller simply starts talking.
A single practice number thereby takes calls in all four languages. For physiotherapy practices with a mixed clientele, this is worth its weight in gold.
Data protection
Voxtra is designed for the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP) and the EU GDPR. Recordings are handled confidentially: used only for the agreed services, and processed by Voxtra and its contractually bound service providers.
At the start of every call, the caller learns that they are speaking to an AI assistant and that the call is recorded. For us this is part of the standard, clearly visible instead of fine print tucked away at the end.
Swiss-made software from Zurich
Voxtra is a Swiss product in its own right: the software stack is developed, owned and operated by Voxtra GmbH in Zurich. For Swiss practices that means short lines of communication, a local contact and data protection that meets Swiss expectations.
Sensitive call and appointment data is treated confidentially and serves only the services agreed with your practice. The revised Swiss Data Protection Act (revFADP) is therefore part of the product.
